2023 Blue Santa Recap

Many of you saw the article published in December about the Blue Santa program. We wanted to share some pictures and stories from the event that took place in December of 2023. The Lawson Community Center helped identify children in the H.I.S.D. school district in need for the 5th Annual Blue Santa Shopping event. The selected children had to write a one-page essay on how today’s youth and HPD can build trust and respect with one another. These children, ranging from elementary to high school received $150 gift card to shop as they please for Christmas.

Chief Finner announced at the event that he plans to use these essays to help bridge the gap between HPD and the communities of Houston. HPD Officers and many Command Staff members joined in for the Blue Santa shopping event and helped children shop for Christmas gifts. HPD officers who donate to the program can also select families in their community or patrol region to support during Christmas. Officers support these families by picking up toys and delivering them to the families.

Officer Blankenship (right) has helped this family through Blue Santa since 2018 when these three girls lost both their parents when their mother was brutally murdered by their father, and he went on the run. The oldest, just of age, to care for her younger two siblings would not be able to afford Christmas if it wasn’t for the Blue Santa program. With this story comes hundreds of other heart-breaking stories of families in need during Christmas, but Officers can offer hope to these families through Blue Santa. 175492
