9/11 Knox/Cormier fundraiser tops $30,000

Volunteers and friends showed up on 9/11 to support Chase Cormier and the Knox family

An Aug. 28 fundraiser postponed until 9/11 due to the weather raised more than $30,000 for the families of Fox pilot Chase Cormier and his partner Jason Knox, who died in the May 2 crash that left Cormier with serious injuries.

Coordinator Sgt. Steve Borgstedte praised all participants, especially Demeris B-B-Q, which catered the drive-by BBQ pickup, a now-standard method of fundraising operation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The funds raised will be processed through Assist the Officer Foundation to benefit Cormier, who is still recovering from severe injuries sustained in the early-morning helicopter crash that took the life of his partner, Jason Knox.

In addition to the sale of $15 BBQ plates, Borgstedte said additional money was raised through the ATO online auction.
