No HPOU Family Picnic would be complete without a special T-shirt to commemorate the occasion.
And this year’s version is extra special since the pandemic prevented the Union from taking members and their children of all ages out to “the ranch” for all sorts of family fun and entertainment.
The annual HPOU tradition will be held in the cooler month of November at the established location of the Oil Ranch in Hockley off Highway 290. It’s on a Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
You can look for the depiction of a cow wearing a police hat – the brainchild of Dan Levine and his Picnic Committee, which includes HPOU’s Lisa Marino, a party planner who knows fun from udder non-sense, a reference to this year’s “cow theme.”
Lisa pointed out that the shirts will come in youth sizes, especially “extra small,” which indicated that when we say “kids of all ages” those kiddos might well be wearing diapers.
Adult T-shirts won’t have a cow but will follow through with the ranch theme of the picnic, Lisa said.
Members’ kids can look forward to face painting and balloon animals and various other surprises and a wide array of outdoor activities supplied by the ranch hands, HPOU secretary and picnic coordinator Danny Levine said.
“This fun time will be patterned exactly like the HPOU Family Picnic the Union sponsored two years ago,” Levine said. “As everyone knows, we didn’t have a picnic last year due to the pandemic.”
Levine stressed members still have plenty of time to pick up their tickets. They are free, as usual. The Union needs to distribute them as demanded in order to get an accurate estimate for the number of people expected to attend for food planning purposes.
Yes, there will be “plenty of fried food and hot dogs” for everyone as well as “adult beverages” available for purchase.

Or, as always, contact or see HPOU’s Lisa Marino on the third floor, from any HPOU board member or from the front desk downstairs. You may contact Levine at firstname.lastname@example.org

Everything is outdoors. But this business that’s been in operation for 44 years has thought of everything, including indoor facilities in case of rain. On site are five large pavilions, the two larger ones each seating up to 600 people.
