Retired Senior Police Officer Robert G. Alaniz passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife, Irma M. Alaniz. Officer Alaniz began is law enforcement career on June 21, 1976 where he was assigned to the City of Houston Marshal’s Division and the City of Houston Park Police until the merger with the Houston Police Department on September 1, 1985. During his career with the Houston Police Department, he was assigned to the Special Operations Division and the Downtown Division until his retirement on July 15, 2017. Services were held November 20 with burial in Hollywood Cemetery.

BRYAN

Mrs. Margaret Bryan passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the age of 73. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Megan Lares, assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Division-Crash Investigations. Private services were held.

BRYANT

Retired Senior Police Officer Larry W. Bryant passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Deborah K. Bryant. He is also the father of Sergeant Derek W. Bryant, assigned to the Southeast Division. Officer Bryant, who was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, joined the Houston Police Department on June 12, 1972, Academy Class No. 55. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the North Division and the Southwest Division until his retirement on May 8, 2004. Services were held Nov. 22.

CHAVEZ, JOSE

Mr. Jose Manuel Chavez passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the age of 47. He is the brother of Sergeant Heraclio A. Chavez, who entered Phase Down B on March 21, 2020, out of the Homicide Division; and brother-in-law of Lieutenant Michelle S. Chavez, assigned to the Narcotics Division. Services were held in Pasadena on November 14.

CHAVEZ, MIGUEL

Mr. Miguel Angel Chavez passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at the age of 59. He is the father of Police Officer Marlon E. Segovia, assigned to the Westside Division. Services were held October 30 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

COLEMAN

Retired Senior Police Officer Richard V. Coleman passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2020, at the age of 60. He joined the Houston Police Department on January 16, 1986, Academy Class No. 133. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to South Central, Emergency Communications, Westside, and Community Services Divisions, Office of Public Affairs, and Criminal Investigations Command. Senior Police Officer Coleman retired on February 6, 2010, out of the Jail Division. Services were held November 7.

FURSTENFELD

Retired Senior Police Officer Daniel D. Furstenfeld passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the age of 68. His wife, Roanne Furstenfeld survives him; he is also the brother of Retired Sergeant Matthew R. Furstenfeld, who retired on March 11, 2017. Senior Police Officer Daniel Furstenfeld joined the Houston Police Department on April 1, 1974, Academy Class No. 64. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central, Emergency Communications, and Narcotics Divisions, retiring on March 22, 2008.

HARRIS

Mrs. Frances D. Harris passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the age of 78. She is the mother of Senior Police Service Officer Raymond Harris, assigned to the Airport-Hobby Division and Training Coordinator Ronda Harris, assigned to the Houston Emergency Center. Services were held November 6 with burial in Cemetery Beautiful.

HERNANDEZ

Mr. Francisco Hernandez passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at the age of 88. He is the grandfather of Police Officer Vicki C. Hernandez, assigned to the Eastside Division. Services were held November 25 with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

JACKSON

Mr. Charles “Chuck” Prentiss Jackson passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at the age of 67. He is the husband of Administrative Assistant Rhonda Lewis Jackson, assigned to the Auto Theft Division.

JOHNSON

Mr. Albert Johnson, Sr. passed away on Friday, November 13, 2020, at the age of 103. He is the grandfather of  retired Senior Police Officer Tonya Wiseman who retired on October 16, 2020 and was last assigned to the South Central Division. Graveside services were held November 20 in Paradise North Cemetery.

KETTLER

Mrs. Maria G. Kettler passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the age of 69. She is the wife of Retired Senior Police Officer Edwin A. Kettler, who retired as a police officer on March 26, 2005, and is currently assigned to the Airport IAH Division as a Senior Police Service Officer. Services were held November 3 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

LERO

Retired Police Officer Tommy J. Lero passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at the age of 85. Officer Lero who was a Veteran of the United States Air Force joined the Houston Police Department on January 1, 1960, Academy Class No. 23. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Central Division, Jail Division and the Property Room until his retirement on April 30, 1987. Services were held November 13 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer.

LINDER

Retired Police Officer Robert W. Linder passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at the age of 83. Officer Linder joined the Houston Police Department on June 1, 1959, Academy Class No. 21. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Radio Patrol Bureau, Traffic Enforcement Division and the Accident Division until his retirement on September 9, 1983. Services were held November 23.

LOPEZ, AURORA

Mrs. Aurora Lopez passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the age of 85. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Edgar Lopez and Senior Police Officer Primitivo “Primo” Lopez who are both assigned to the Risk Management Division.  She is also the grandmother of Commander Vidal Lopez, assigned to the South Gessner Division; Sergeant Alfonso Olvera, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division; Sergeant Alfonso Lopez, assigned to the Downtown Division; Senior Police Officer Oscar Cavazos, assigned to the Central Division and Police Officer Abelina Lopez, assigned to the Eastside Division. Services were held November 24 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

LOPEZ, RICARDO

Mr. Ricardo Lopez passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at the age of 59. He is the father of Evidence Technician Leslie L. Gamez, assigned to the Office of Technology Services.3831. Services were held November 7.

McCLAIN

Mrs. Danita McClain passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the ae of 62. She is the mother of Police Officer Dionsha McClain, assigned to the South Central Division. Services were held November 10 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

MADRID

Senior Police Officer Redefo Madrid assigned to the Airport Division – IAH passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at the age of 52. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pinkie G. Madrid. Officer Madrid joined the Houston Police Department on June 11, 1990, Academy Class No. 140. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the North Division and the Southeast Division. Services were held November 1 with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Peducah.

NGUYEN, LAM

Mr. Lam T. Nguyen passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at the age of 71. He is the father of Police Officer Van T. Nguyen, assigned to the Westside Division. Services were held November 13.

NGUYEN, TUAN

Lieutenant Tuan H. Nguyen, assigned to the Emergency Communications Division, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the age of 60. His wife, Dao M. Nguyen, survives him. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on April 10, 1995, Academy Class No. 163. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast Division, South Central Division, Juvenile Division, Night Command and Security Operations, Airport Hobby Division, and Downtown Division. Services were held November 6 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer.

PEDERSON

Retired Senior Police Officer Richard G. Pederson passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dianne Pederson. Officer Pederson who was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps joined the Houston Police Department on April 7, 1980, Academy Class No. 91. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast Division, Emergency Communications Division, Homicide Division and North Division until his retirement on August 15, 2015. Services were held November 21.

PERRY

Retired Senior Police Officer Raymond D. Perry passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the age of 89. His wife, Nancy Z. Perry, survives him. He is a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on May 20, 1963, Academy Class No. 28. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central and Southeast Divisions. Senior Police Officer Perry retired on December 18, 2004. Services were held November 16.

PIERCE

Retired Sergeant James A. Pierce passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020, at the age of 90. His wife, Mrs. Susan Schinke, survives him. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He joined the Houston Police Department on May 21, 1956, Academy Class No. 14. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central and Homicide Divisions. Sergeant Pierce retired on March 1, 1991. Services were held November 7 with burial in Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.

RAMBIE

Retired Police Officer Robert M. Rambie passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020, at the age of 81. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on December 28, 1959, Academy Class No. 23. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Accident Division, Dispatchers Office, and Traffic Point Control Division. Officer Rambie retired on July 7, 1980. Services were held November 14 with burial in Masonic Cemetery in Del Rio.

RANEY

Mr. Matt Raney passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the age of 63. His mother, Retired Police Officer Bonnie L. Montero, precedes him in death. He is also the son of Retired Sergeant James “Jim” Montero; brother of Retired Sergeant Janice Raney Hawk and husband, Retired Police Officer J.D. Hawk, Retired Sergeant Shelly Scheibe and husband, Retired Lieutenant Gary Scheibe; uncle of Police Officer Elizabeth L. Scheibe and her husband Police Officer Jonathan Woodall, both assigned to the Mental Health Division; and great grandson of Police Officer Ira D. Raney, who was killed in the Line of Duty on August 23, 1917 during the Camp Logan Riot.

REED

Mr. Fred Reed, Sr. passed away on Friday, November 6, 2020, at the age of 84. He is the father of retired Senior Police Officer Calvin ‘C.T.’ Reed, who retired on December 8, 2012 and was last assigned to the Special Operations Division. Services were held November 14 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

SALAZAR

Mr. Jesse Q. Salazar, Sr. passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at the age of 90. He is the father of Retired Senior Word Processor Joan A. Salazar, who retired on August 1, 2019, out of the Criminal Investigations Command. Services were held November 12 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

SINGH

Mr. Jagjit Singh passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020, at the age of 85. He is the father of Office Service Manager Harkeert Singh, assigned to the Records Division. Services were scheduled in New Delhi, India.

SMITH

Retired Police Officer Gene A. Smith passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda N. Smith. Officer Smith was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and joined the Houston Police Department on September 8, 1958, Academy Class No.19. During his career with the department, Officer Smith was assigned to the Central Division and the Northeast Division until his retirement on March 29, 1991. Graveside services were held in Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.

UECKER

Mrs. Bonnie Ueckert Freudenberg passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020, at the age of 82. She is the wife of retired Police Officer Gilbert G. Freudenberg who was last assigned to the Northwest Division until his retirement on March 31, 1988. Services were held November 4 with burial in LaGrange.

WESTFALL

Retired Sergeant Albert R. Westfall passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at the age of 76. His wife, Dorothy Westfall survives him. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. He started his law enforcement career when he joined the Houston Police Department on April 20, 1970, Academy Class No. 44. During his time with the department, he was assigned to the Emergency Communications and Narcotics Divisions. He resigned from the department on February 15, 1972. He joined the City of Houston Marshal on May 1, 1978. He returned to the Houston Police Department with the merger of the City of Houston Marshal on November 20, 1992. Sergeant Westfall retired on March 27, 2004. Graveside services were held in Hollywood Cemetery.

YOUNG

Sergeant Thomas E. Young assigned to the Eastside Division passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the age of 42. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine S. Young. Sergeant Young joined the Houston Police Department on April 16, 2012, Academy Class No. 213. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast Division and Clear Lake Division. Services were held November 19.
