Delayed outcry of a 14 year old child

HPOU’s Lam with Det. Deljoui

Detective Deljoui was assigned a case that involved the delayed outcry of a 14 year old child who stated that she was sexually abused from the time she was 7 years old until she was 11 years old by her uncle. The child stated that she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle when her mother was sent out of the country. The child stated that her uncle began touching her and then the abuse escalated to weekly sexual assault. With limited information, Detective Deljoui was able to locate the suspect and conducted an interview. During a secondary interview the suspect admitted to sexually assaulting the child multiple times.

Detective Deljoui was able to file charges of Continuous Sexual Assault of a Child against the suspect and provided the suspect information as well as the warrant details to Major Offenders. Upon completion of his investigation Detective Deljoui relentlessly followed up with the case ensuring the warrant was executed. Detective Deljoui learned the warrant was still active despite efforts of other warrant teams attempting to locate the suspect. Detective Deljoui conducted additional research on the suspect’s location and searched the suspect’s vehicle on Flock Safety’s ALPR where he received several hits placing the suspect in the area of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Detective Deljoui contacted Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and advised them of the wanted suspect who was then arrested in less than 48 hours and scheduled to be extradited. Detective Deljoui went above and beyond the scope of his position to get a predator into custody and for that the union awards him investigator of the month.
