HPOU named Detective Cole as its investigator of the month for October, and she was honored at the October 6 Membership Meeting.
Det. Cole of Major Assaults was recently assigned several complex Aggravated Assault-Deadly Weapon cases. Many of the incidents tragically turned into Murder cases when the victims succumbed to their wounds.
In one of the cases, Det. Cole was called to a shooting scene in southwest Houston where a complainant was shot multiple times. The complainant was sent to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
While still on the scene, Det. Cole conducted research and identified the possible shooter. Det. Cole coordinated with the patrol officers, and they were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle in a nearby apartment complex. Det. Cole was also able to recover video surveillance footage, collect shell casings, and conduct interviews while patrol units kept constant surveillance on the possible suspect’s vehicle and his apartment.
She was able to match the suspect’s identification card to surveillance footage she had collected and quickly filed an arrest warrant. Patrol units were able to arrest the violent suspect and recover the firearm used in the shooting.
Det. Cole conducted an interrogation with the suspect and received a confession. A day later, the complainant succumbed to his wounds and charges were upgraded to murder. Through her tireless efforts and meticulous work, Det. Cole was able to charge many violent offenders and get justice for the complainants and their families. Det. Cole is an asset to the Houston Police Department and her honorable service to the victims of violent crimes is highly regarded by her supervisors and coworkers.
