Clendennen, Gary “Paco” (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer Gary “Paco” Clendennen passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 68. Officer Clendennen joined the Houston Police Department on November 10, 1975, Academy Class #72. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast, Jail, Vice, and Traffic & Accident Divisions until his retirement on March 8, 1996.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Neal Funeral Home & Monument.

Cruz, Angelita G.

Mrs. Angelita G. Cruz passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at the age of 78. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Joseph P. Cruz, assigned to the South Gessner Division.

A Funeral Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.  Burial followed at Historic Hollywood Cemetery.

Fason, Johnny M., Jr. (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer Johnny M. Fason Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the age of 73. He is survived by his wife, Joni Fason. Officer Fason joined the Houston Police Department on August 23, 1971, Academy Class #51. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast Division, Eastside Division and Clear Lake Division until his retirement on October 20, 2007.

A memorial service was held at Peevey Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2023.

Ferguson, Aide Melanye M. (RETIRED)

Retired Administrative Aide Melanye M. Ferguson passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at the age of 57. She is the cousin of Senior Customer Service Clerk Yolanda L. McNeal, assigned to the Records Division. Ms. Ferguson joined the Houston Police Department on September 1, 1990. During her career with the department, she was assigned to the Burglary and Theft Division, Vice Division, Records Division and Juvenile Division until her retirement on February 1, 2017.

Funeral services were held at Holman Street Baptist Church on Saturday, January 14, 2023.  Interment followed at Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Garcia, Maria D.

Mrs. Maria D. Garcia passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the age of 80. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Gustavo P. Garcia of the Airport IAH Division and Senior Police Officer Sergio A. Garcia of the North Division.

The body is entrusted with Morales Funeral Home, 2901 Canal Street, Houston, Texas 77003 (713) 223-1167. A Visitation will be held before the Rosary at Morales Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will commence at 7:00 p.m.

A second Visitation will be held before the Funeral Mass at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas 77002 (713) 659-1561 on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will commence at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 North Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009 (713) 227-5109.

Gatson, Eleanor F.

Mrs. Eleanor F. Gatson passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023, at the age of 84. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Darrell L. Gatson of the Downtown Division.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Greater First Baptist Church on Saturday, January 21, 2023.  The Funeral Service followed.

Grieger, Glenn L. (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer Glenn L. Grieger passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at the age of 88. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 14, 1959, Academy Class #22. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Patrol Bureau, Jail, Juvenile, Patrol S.W.A.T., Central, Police Garage, Southeast, Vice, North, and Northwest Divisions. Police Officer Grieger retired on January 25, 1982.

A visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home on Sunday, February 5, 2023.  Burial followed at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

Haselberger, Florence Ann

Mrs. Florence Ann Haselberger passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the age of 85. She is the mother of retired Senior Police Officer Gregory J. Haselberger who was last assigned to the Narcotics Division until his retirement on December 17, 2016 and grandmother of Senior Police Officer Francisco J. Haselberger, assigned to the Gang Division.

A visitation was held at George Irvin Green Funeral Home on Monday, January 23.  Funeral services were held at George Irvin Green Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

Horn, Margaret J.

Mrs. Margaret J. Horn passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the age of 89. She is the mother of Lieutenant Joshua C. Horn, assigned to the Homicide Division.

A visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Veterans Funeral Services on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.  The Funeral Service followed at the Houston National Cemetery.

Huff, Benjamin L. (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer Benjamin L. Huff passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the age of 67. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on March 13, 1986, Academy Class #134. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Southwest, Jail, Air Support, Community Services, Airport IAH, Emergency Communications, and Crime Analysis & Command Center Divisions. Senior Police Officer Huff retired on February 28, 2015.

No Memorial Services are planned at this time.

Knepp, Robert E. (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer Robert E. Knepp passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the age of 74. Officer Knepp joined the Houston Police Department on January 8, 1968, Academy Class #37. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Jail, Northwest, and North Divisions until his retirement on May 3, 1996.

Lavespere, Angela Marie

Ms. Angela Marie Lavespere passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the age of 57. She is the sister of Sergeant Carl J. Sedita, assigned to the Air Support Division.

Marshall, Ruth A. (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Public Service Officer Ruth A. Marshall passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the age of 59. Ms. Marshall joined the Houston Police Department on November 15, 1995. During her tenure with the department, she was assigned to the Northwest, Jail, and North Divisions until her retirement on July 31, 2021.

Sergeant Matlock, Raymond G. (RETIRED)

Retired Sergeant Raymond G. Matlock passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maria “Rosie” Matlock. He joined the Houston Police Department on August 14, 1978, Academy Class #83. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Northeast, Jail, Juvenile, Central, and Tactical Operations Divisions. Sergeant Matlock retired on January 8, 2011.

A Memorial Service was held at Founders Baptist Church on Friday, January 27, 2023.

McCrea, Sherman W., Sr.

Mr. Sherman W. McCrea Sr. passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the age of 79. He is the father-in-law of Senior Police Officer Chere L. Delco-McCrea of the Airport IAH Division.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church on Saturday, February 4, 2023.  Burial followed at Eternal Rest Cemetery.

McGriff, Willie Mae

Ms. Willie Mae McGriff passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the age of 82. She is the mother of Word Processor Tammie E. McGriff of the Victim Services Division.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at The Community of Faith Church.  Burial was held at Paradise North Cemetery Monday, January 30, 2023.

Oglesby, John A., III (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer John A. Oglesby, III passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kristi Oglesby. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on January 9, 1984, Academy Class #118. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Northwest, Jail, Central, Vice, Southeast, Traffic Enforcement, and Vehicular Crimes Divisions. Senior Police Officer Oglesby retired on June 17, 2006.

A visitation was held before the Memorial Service at Lifeway Baptist Church on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Shields, James H. (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer James H. Shields passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, at the age of 88. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Kay L. Shields. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He joined the Houston Police Department on October 6, 1969, Academy Class #42. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central, Juvenile, Southeast, Crime Analysis, and Vice Divisions. Police Officer Shields retired on June 29, 1990.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Swierk, Walt, Jr.

Mr. Walt Swierk, Jr. passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the age of 74. He is the father of Retired Sergeant and current Senior Data Entry Operator Michael E. Swierk of the Risk Management Division.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 26, 2023.  Burial followed at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Thies, Rose M.

Mrs. Rose M. Thies passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the age of 87. She is the mother of Sergeant John H. Thies, assigned to the Clear Lake Division.

Thornton, Eulla V. Shirley

Mrs. Eulla V. Shirley Thornton passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the age of 80. She is the mother of Senior Computer Operator Linda Thornton, assigned to the Office of Technology Services.

A visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Anointed Faith Family Church on Friday January 27, 2023. The Funeral Service followed at Calvary Hill Cemetery.

Walker, Yreva L.

Mrs. Yreva L. Walker passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the age of 63. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Travis W. Williamson of the Clear Lake Division.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2023.  Burial followed at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery.

Williams, Bobby J.

Mr. Bobby J. Williams passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the age of 69. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Shynolan D. Reese of the South Central Division and Retired Senior Police Officer Kevin M. Hunt who on retired July 22, 2022.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at McCoy and Harrison Funeral Home on Friday, January 20, 2023.  Burial followed at Houston Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Wilson, Aline

Mrs. Aline Wilson passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the age of 88. She is the widow of Retired Sergeant Milton Wayne Wilson, who passed away on September 29, 2016. She is also the sister-in-law of Retired Sergeant Richard M. Wilson, who retired on December 18, 2004, out of the Air Support Division.

A Funeral Service was held at the First Baptist Church of Salado on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

The Graveside Service was held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery on Monday February 6, 2023.

Woolf, Samuel I. (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer Samuel I. Woolf passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022, at the age of 66. He joined the Houston Police Department on February 8, 1982, Academy Class #103. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast, Jail, Northwest, and Tactical Operations Division. Senior Police Officer Woolf retired on December 31, 2004.

A Memorial Service was held at the Houston Police Officers’ Union Meeting Hall on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
