Quick Action Saves Shooting Victim

On June 28th, 2026, Officers Singer and Wilkes were working a special assignment at FIFA Fan Fest. Shortly after noon, there was a call reporting a shooting just occurred a few blocks away. Due to the large crowd event in the immediate area, it was imperative that both officers render the scene safe. Upon arrival, they found a female victim lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds to her left arm and side. A small crowd had gathered nearby, but no one was rendering aid. Officer Wilkes moved quickly to apply a tourniquet to the victim’s arm, while Officer Singer retrieved a med kit and began placing chest seals on her wounds. Their quick, coordinated response came at a critical moment for the victim’s survival.

While Singer and Wilkes worked to stabilize her, other officers on scene searched the surrounding area for the suspect, and a detailed description of the suspect and vehicle was broadcasted. Singer later located a fired projectile at the scene, and the absence of spent cartridges helped confirm a witness’s account of the weapon used.

The suspect vehicle was subsequently located by Doug Griffith, who followed it and relayed its direction of travel until marked units arrived. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered. The victim, who sustained three gunshot wounds, survived. The suspect was identified and charged. Officers Singer and Wilkes’s calm, immediate action under difficult circumstances reflects the kind of instinct and training that makes a real difference when it matters most, and for that the union awards them patrol officers of the month.
