HPOU Endorsements for City Election on November 7, 2023

Houston’s current mayor is term-limited, which means Houston will be getting a new mayor in January 2024.  The election will be November 7, 2023, and we anticipate a runoff after that as there are many candidates. This is an important race for Houston Police Officers because it will determine the trajectory the Houston Police Department takes for the next four years. The Houston Police Officers’ Union has endorsed longtime State Senator John Whitmire to be the next mayor who promises to coordinate a law enforcement surge in the community. John Whitmire understands the officer shortages faced by HPD and plans to address the officer shortage with an innovative hiring strategy. He is also a big-time supporter of law enforcement. HPOU has made several other endorsements for the upcoming election including controller and city council elections. Please see the full list of endorsements below, get out and vote and encourage others to do the same!
