HPOU honors Det. Nickerson for his work solving robberies in Houston’s Asian community

HPOU’s Seagler with Det. Nickerson

HPOU honored Det. Jharyde Nickerson as its Investigator of the month for September for his diligence in working with Houston’s Asian community to solve troublesome serial robberies.

In July, Det.  Nickerson, son of Sgt. Cedric Nickerson of the DRT unit at South Gessner, was assigned a robbery investigation in the Westside area involving complainants who only spoke Chinese, which required translators and collaboration with many beyond the complainant and detective.

Detective Nickerson worked hard and developed leads by hitting the ground and obtaining many surveillance videos that eventually yielded a plate, which turned out to be involved in a bogus stolen auto report.

Nickerson was able to link many other incidents together for robberies in the Asian community by bridging the cultural gap and contending with the hesitancy to cooperate or even reach out to the police.

Nickerson was able to file numerous charges and solve several serial robberies and for his work he is August’s investigator of the month.
