No shortage of excellence amongst HPD ranks

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS READ THE OFFICER PROFILES in this issue of the Badge & Gun to once again see proof that the men and women in Houston Blue do their jobs well often.

What’s the point? We continue to stress the need for nominations for HPOU Patrol Officer of the Month and Investigator of the Month. How many times have you heard a colleague on the streets or in the office say, “I should have nominated YOU?

We hate to keep saying that monthly honorees can’t be recognized due to the fact that the restrictions from this year-long pandemic prevent the Union from having general membership meetings on the first Thursday of every month. So, too, is it sad that this year’s Officer and Investigator of the Year cannot be recognized at the annual ATO Police Heroes Gala – another twice-postponed event due to COVID-19.

But let’s don’t let these postponements stop us from the nomination process. The Houston Police Department has more excellence than indicated by the two or three nominations received each month.

Please inundate the selection committee with more nominations. We will repeat the simple method of operations: Go to HPOU.org and hover over the Members tab. On the right side of the menu, click on the nomination forms for Officer and Investigator of the Month. The form only takes a few minutes to fill out, especially if you have a commendation letter to cut and paste.

To get the idea, you might read the enclosed stories of officers of the year for both 2020 and 2021. Congratulations to each of them!
