The Union named Midwest Patrol Officer Carlos Santana as its Patrol Officer of the Month in the January general membership meeting for Santana’s quick and effective response to a shooting incident.
Officer Carlos Santana riding 18F43k was dispatched to a shooting just occurred call at 5:30 a.m. Feb. 28 at the location of 6623 Harwin DR at the Palace Inn Hotel.
Officer Santana was informed that a female victim had been shot and quickly responded to the scene, upon arrival at the scene Officer Santana observed a white Toyota Corolla leaving the hotel and believed it to be the suspect vehicle. Santana immediately turned his patrol vehicle around and followed the suspect vehicle while getting on the air giving location for additional units to assist. He was able to initiate a traffic stop once back-up arrived, and detained the suspect. While searching the vehicle officers were able to locate a firearm that was used on the female victim, who had been shot four times.
The suspect was her husband who had just broken up with her and shot her. Due to Officer Santana’s swift action, he was able to apprehend a family violence suspect and charge him with Aggravated Assault.
The female victim survived and was in stable condition.
