For #PawsToTheRescue today we had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people: Officer Austin Gryder, son of fallen Officer Gary Allen Gryder, and the children of fallen Fox Tactical Flight Officer, Jason Knox. This is a special Paws to the Rescue post as this week we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week which pays special recognition and honors those law enforcement officers, local, state, and federal peace officers, who have lost their lives, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
Officer Gryder, who followed in his late father’s footsteps into HPD, helped pass out treats to our shelter dogs waiting for homes and stopped by to meet our adoptable cats and kittens. Five-month-old puppy, Ryder A1819980, even came out to say hello and made sure to give the Knox children lots of kisses in exchange for treats and toys. This energetic little pup is looking for a new home and would love to have a canine friend or small human friends to play with. As a puppy he still has lots of learning to do and would benefit from training and puppy socialization classes.
The Knox family also joined in and helped us pass out treats and enrichment to our shelter pups and one particular pet caught the Knox family’s heart. We’re happy announce that Mars was adopted right after our Paws to the Rescue photoshoot and in addition to his very own tiny humans to take care of, Mars will have a doggy sister to play with in his new home!
Thank you to our partners at the Houston Police Officers’ Union union for making today possible. And a big thank you to the families of Officer Gary Gryder and Officer Jason Knox for joining us today and helping us bring wagging tails to our shelter dogs.
