Mr. Jimmy Karol Beresky Jr. passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the age of 73. He is the father of Sergeant Deidre Y. Beresky, assigned to the South Central Division.

Mr. Walter C. Broughton Sr. passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 74. He is the brother of Senior Police Officer Reginald D. Broughton of the Criminal Intelligence Division.

Carley, Elmer J. “Bud”

Mr. Elmer J. “Bud” Carley passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the age of 89. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Sheila C. Spivey of the Command Center Division.

A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Castille, Brenda

Ms. Brenda Castille passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the age of 67. She is the sister of Retired Senior Police Officer Gregory T. Castille who retired on October 11, 2013.

A Visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Trinity Gardens Church of Christ on Friday, September 8, 2023. Burial followed at Cemetery Beautiful.

Flucas, Kenneth E., Sr.

Mr. Kenneth E. Flucas Sr. passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023, at the age of 68. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Devena K. Flucas of the Major Assaults & Family Violence Division.

A Graveside Service was held at Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Gutierrez, George (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer George Gutierrez passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the age of 62. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 20, 1982, Academy Class #108 and was also a Veteran of the United States Army. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the North Division, Central Division and the Auto Theft Division until his retirement on March 25, 2017.

A visitation was held at Brookside Funeral Home on Monday, August 21, 2023.

Funeral services were held at Brookside Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Interment followed at Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Hadnot, John W. (RETIRED)

Retired Senior Police Officer John W. Hadnot passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bridgette Hadnot. Officer Hadnot, who was also a Veteran of the United States Army, joined the Houston Police Department on November 9, 1992, Academy Class #151. During his career with the department, he was assigned to the South-Central Division, Southwest Division, Juvenile Division and the Criminal Investigations Command until his retirement on June 26, 2021.

Hammons, Joseph R. (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer Joseph R. Hammons passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gloria A. Hammons. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 12, 1973, Academy Class #62. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Traffic and Accident, Special Operations, and Narcotics Divisions. Police Officer Hammons retired on September 10, 1994.

A Memorial Service was held at Klein Funeral Home – CyFair-Northwest on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Sergeant Haddock, Bobbie L. (RETIRED)

Retired Sergeant Bobbie L. Haddock passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of 85. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. JoAnn G. Haddock. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. He joined the Houston Police Department on September 14, 1959, Academy Class #22. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Central and Air Support Divisions. Sergeant Haddock retired on January 20, 1989.

A visitation was held at Henneke Funeral Home on Thursday, August 24, 2023.

A second visitation was held before the Funeral Service at Henneke Funeral Home on Friday, August 25, 2023. Burial followed at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery.

Retired Senior Police Officer Phillip G. Jackson passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 57. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Robyn Jackson. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 6, 1989, Academy Class #137. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Southeast, Southwest, South Gessner, and Northwest Divisions. Senior Police Officer Jackson Retired on September 19, 2020.

A wake was held at Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

Funeral Services were held at Wesley Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Friday, September 1, 2023. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery.

Johnson, Theoberda Mae Simmons

Mrs. Theoberda Mae Simmons Johnson passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, at the age of 92. She is the mother of retired Senior Office Assistant Kaysangia Y. Mullen, who was last assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division until her retirement on November 19, 2022.

A visitation was held before a Celebration of Life service at God’s House of Worship and Praise on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

Kirtley, Johnnie W. (RETIRED)

Retired Police Officer Johnnie W. Kirtley passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the Age of 81. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Debra Kirtley. He joined the Houston Police Department on March 31, 1975, Academy Class #69. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the Northwest, Emergency Communications, North, and Juvenile Divisions. Police Officer Kirtley retired on July 19, 1995.

A Memorial Service was held at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home – Clinton on August 16, 2023.

Lastee, Irene (RETIRED)

Retired Police Telecommunicator Irene Lastee passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of 84. She joined the Houston Police Department as a Clerk I on June 25, 1965. During her whole career with the department, she was assigned to the Emergency Communications Division. Police Telecommunicator Lastee retired on January 15, 1994.

Mr. Arthur F. Nelson passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of 54. He is the father of Police Officer Kyuana J. Nelson of the Officer of Community Affairs Division.

Mrs. Trinh Thi Nguyen passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the age of 91. She is the mother-in-law of Technical Hardware Analyst III Hung C. Le, assigned to the Office of Technology Services.

Mrs. Melba Porter Ozenne passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the age of 93. She is the grandmother of Police Officer Laura L. Lawrence of the Office of Community Affairs Division and mother-in-law of Senior Police Officer Efrem Z. Waller of the Command Center Division.

Pierott, Deborah D.

Mrs. Deborah D. Pierott passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the age of 65. She is the sister of retired Senior Office Assistant Kaysangia Y. Mullen, who was last assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division until her retirement on November 19, 2022.

Roccaforte, Samuel G.

Mr. Samuel G. Roccaforte passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the age of 98. He is the father of retired Senior Police Officer Samuel A. Roccaforte who was last assigned to the Special Operations Division until his retirement on March 4, 2023. He is also the grandfather of Police Officer Taylor M. Roccaforte, assigned to the Tactical Operations Division.
