Shooting at Whataburger

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Central Patrol responded to a Shooting call at a Whataburger. Two restaurant employees were shot at by two unknown suspects who were unhappy with their food order. The suspects pulled a gun out and began to shoot indiscriminately in the restaurant at a dining room full of customers and staff; striking one staff member in the chest. During the course of this investigation, Major Assaults Detective Brumley was able to identify the same two suspects exhibiting the same M.O., in another fast-food restaurant shooting that occurred in close proximity on Friday, January 26, 2024, at a Jack in The Box. After linking both cases, and conducting an extensive, complex investigation that required pouring over hours of video surveillance, gathering evidence and conducting numerous interviews of complainants, Detective Brumley was able to secure a confession from both suspects, regarding both separate shooting scenes. The in-depth investigation conducted by Detective Brumley led to the filing of four Felony Aggravated Assault charges on each suspect, who were eventually taken into custody for a total of eight (8) Felony Aggravated Assault charges. Detective Brumley’s persistence, attention to detail and dedication exemplifies the values and mission of the Houston Police Department, and for that the union awards him investigator of the month.
