Thank-you’s to Webwood Flowers, The Ballroom at Bayou Place, & HPCAAA

HPOU’s May 6 celebration of the lives of the HPD officers who made the ultimate sacrifice featured flowers and bows – and tons of goodwill – donated by two very special supporters – Webwood Flowers and The Ballroom at Bayou Place.

The event drew more than 150 members of the surviving families of these brave men and women, who were recognized at the Houston Police Memorial as part of the 2022 Police Week.

The HPOU held a special reception at the Breck Porter Building, recognizing the surviving family members before the Police Memorial ceremony.

Every year, the HPOU strives to make the Memorial Reception a comforting and warm experience for the families of fallen officers and this year was no exception.  Webwood Flowers donated and delivered beautiful centerpieces made of silver vases and blue flowers.  While The Ballroom at Bayou Place provided royal blue linens and chair sash bows.

“The hall was beautiful!” HPOU’s Lisa Marino said while recapping the event and voicing the sincere thank-you’s to these two local Houston businesses that support HPOU and Houston police officers.

“There were 20 beautiful arrangements that accented the silver and blue that were the colors for this event,” Marino said of the colorful flower arrangements. “We were able to give them to the mothers or wives of the fallen officers. It was a special early Mother’s Day gift for them.”

Marino smiled as she recalled that “we had a full house” due to “a great team effort” featuring HPOU board members who took the care of calling each individual family of fallen HPD officers to verify their information and attendance.

“The board members started two months before the event calling family members, asking about any family members not on their list, to make sure we got as many people as we could to the event, so we could properly honor their fallen hero,” Marino explained.

“The volunteers from the Houston Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association were also a huge help that evening has they checked in survivors and freshened up the hall for the after ceremony reception.”

Another big hit with the families was the HPOU commemorative coffee mug depicting mourning badges for a sergeant and an officer. The mugs were given out to the attending family members, who showed extraordinary appreciation.  “It was truly an honor to support and serve these amazing families,” the HPOU board.
