Union’s 2020 board election sign-up begins Sept. 1, includes first and second veeps, 11 board positions

No virus or anything else will stop the Houston Police Officers Union from holding its annual Board of Directors election.

Candidate sign-up begins at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 and goes one month until closing at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

On this year’s ballot will be the offices of first and second vice president and the even-numbered board positions as well as Director Position No. 15. Positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 must be held by an HPD officer. Position 14 may be an officer or a sergeant, while Positions s 15, 16 and 18 require sergeant candidates. Position 20 must be held by an officer assigned to Patrol with experience of 10 years or less.

A sample ballot will be posted at HPOU.org on Oct. 2. Electronic voting begins at noon that same day. Voting ends at noon on Oct. 16.

Final election results will be certified and posted within 72 hours of the close of the election.

The HPOU executive committee urges each Union member to take the opportunity to vote.
